Saks Fifth Avenue Lawsuit Alleges Race and Age Discrimination

Eight men have filed a lawsuit against Saks Fifth Avenue, alleging that the company discriminated against them on the basis of their race and age. These allegations arise out of Saks’ flagship store in midtown Manhattan.

The lawsuit alleges that some of the men were hired in 2010 and 2011 and were placed in sales in the men’s department with limited customer traffic, which put them at a disadvantage. They further allege that this decision to place them in limited areas of the store was a decision by their respective managers which was directly based upon the race and/or age of the men.

The lawsuit also details the hostility the men faced at work. Comments such as “you won’t remember anything” and “you don’t have the ‘look’” and are speaking “ghetto” are among the statements contributing to a hostile work environment.
