More than 70,000 Charges of Discrimination Filed with the EEOC in Fiscal Year 2019
A new report from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reveals that there were 72,675 charges of discrimination filed in fiscal year (FY) 2019. Retaliation continued to be the most frequently filed charge with the agency, followed by disability, race and sex.
Specifically, 39,110 of the charges of discrimination filed alleged retaliation in the workplace. The EEOC received 7,514 charges alleging sexual harassment. Of the total sexual harassment charges brought in FY 2019, 16.8% were alleged by men.
The following is a list of all types of charges filed in FY 2019. Because some charges allege multiple bases for discrimination, the percentages total more than 100%.
